About the Club

Welcome to the Field & Furrow Club. As an undergraduate organization we are interested in promoting the fundamentals of agriculture in all of its aspects. Our club is involved, outgoing, and active. We have been named the OUTSTANDING CLUB in the College of ACES for the past two years!

Field & Furrow is registered at UIUC as a member of the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES). We attend both regional and national conferences in conjunction with SAS-ASA. In the past few years, we have traveled to Seattle, WA, Salt Lake City, UT, and Indianapolis, IN for national meetings. In November of 2007, we will travel to New Orleans, LA for the National Convention. Recent regional meetings have been in Minneapolis, MN, and Brookings, SD. SASES provides a great opportunity to meet and talk to students in similar areas of study from across the nation as well as network with professionals in our field.

Field & Furrow presents a tremendous opportunity to expand and improve your leadership skills. We have twelve executive positions, which offer a great opportunity in leadership areas as well as collegiate and industrial networking. As an officer, you can organize activities and projects within the club, or you could venture out and work on an ACES college project or with industrial agriculture in the Champaign-Urbana area.

Because “agronomy” encompasses many types of people and majors, our club's members are from a wide range of backgrounds, from the dairy farm, to the rural town, all the way to major cities. The majors represented among our members include Crop Sciences, Technical Systems Management, Ag Engineering, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Animal Sciences, and ACE.

In addition to national and regional activities, we keep very active here at home. The annual Fall Call Out allows us to invite all prospective students out for a meeting and an evening of fun. In the fall we also sell mums, have social events, and participate in philanthropy activities. In the spring, members are given the opportunity to compete in the speech contest, IPM contest, and go to the awards banquet. We also prepare and sell the seed sets used by high school FFA chapters in Illinois. Before we all leave for the summer we get together for a spring barbecue.

Feel free to stop by our meetings. They are held the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm in W-109 Turner Hall. We also have a lounge in AE 110 Turner Hall that not only displays the many awards won by former Field and Furrow members, but provides a great place to study.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
